| What we use | Why we use it | Personal data? |

| Authentication information | Secure your sign-in. Password handling is provided by our authentication service; WattGlance does not store your supplier password. | Yes |
| Supplier connection tokens / API credentials | Connect to your supplier or authorised data service and retrieve data you ask WattGlance to sync. | Yes — encrypted/restricted |
| MPAN, MPRN and meter details | Identify the correct electricity or gas supply and match readings to it. | Yes |
| Consumption, cost and tariff data | Show usage, calculate costs, trends, forecasts and other energy analysis. | Yes where linked to your account |
| Billing and balance data | Show statements, transactions, balances, credits and billing analysis. | Yes |
| EV charging data | Show charging sessions, costs and EV analysis where supported. | Yes |
| Support and diagnostic records | Provide support, investigate faults and protect the service. | Usually yes |
| Account milestones and recent activity | Help support understand account setup, welcome-email status and when you last used the signed-in app. This records timestamps, not a history of pages or actions. | Yes |
| Subscription records | Retain any historic billing records and support future paid services if they are introduced. | Yes where applicable |
Supplier passwords are used only when needed to establish a supported connection and are not stored by WattGlance. WattGlance does not receive or store full payment-card details.
Why we use it and our lawful basis
We use account, energy and subscription information to provide the service and perform our contract with you. We use proportionate security, diagnostic and support records for our legitimate interests in protecting and improving WattGlance.
We retain limited commercial records where needed to meet accounting, tax, refund, chargeback, consumer and legal obligations. To learn whether WattGlance 1.0 is useful, we also keep anonymous daily totals for a small set of key feature views; these totals contain no user ID, route history, supplier data or energy values. Optional analytics or marketing storage will not be enabled without any consent required by law. WattGlance does not sell personal information.
Who receives it
Information is shared only as needed with organisations that help provide WattGlance:
- Supabase — authentication and database hosting.
- Vercel — application hosting and public-site visitor analytics.
- Resend — service and notification emails.
- Connected energy suppliers and authorised data services — when you ask WattGlance to connect, sync or import data.
- RevenueCat and Stripe — subscription and payment operations.
- Google Gemini — AI-generated features such as the Weekly Update where enabled.
AI-generated features send only rounded, aggregated energy statistics through a deliberately identifier-free payload. WattGlance does not send your name, email address, account number, MPAN/MPRN, supplier credentials or raw half-hourly readings to Gemini.
Only billing/contact identifiers needed for payment operations are sent to RevenueCat and Stripe. Household readings, supplier credentials and forecast data are not payment metadata. Some providers may process information outside the UK; their contractual and legal transfer safeguards apply.
Public-site analytics, cookies and local storage
We use Vercel Web Analytics to understand visits to public WattGlance pages, including page views, referral sources, device/browser information and approximate location. It does not use analytics cookies.
Account pages are excluded from public-site analytics, and query strings and fragments are removed from page URLs before analytics are sent. We do not attach account identities, energy data or supplier credentials to these analytics. Inside the signed-in app, WattGlance 1.0 records only anonymous daily totals for views of Household View, Weekly Update, Tariff Comparison and Your Data so we can judge which core features are useful; no per-user page-view history is stored.
WattGlance uses essential authentication/session storage and browser local storage for display and interface preferences such as theme and selected/collapsed UI state. These are used to make the service work or remember choices you make, not for advertising.
How long we keep it
Account, energy, supplier-connection, notification, import, support and other ordinary service data is normally kept while your WattGlance account exists. Original support-ticket text is erased through account deletion rather than treated as anonymous merely because the account link is removed.
When account deletion succeeds, WattGlance removes the user-owned service data from the live database and then removes the authentication account.
Account milestone and recent-activity timestamps are retained while your account exists and removed with your profile. They can remain after short-lived email delivery logs expire.
To count completed account deletions accurately, a restricted record of your account ID, signup date and whether it is a test or management account remains until the authentication account is removed. Aggregate daily signup and deletion totals contain no account identifiers and may remain afterwards.
WattGlance stores a working copy of connected and imported data so it can provide history, analysis and forecasts. Detailed half-hourly consumption readings are kept for up to two years. Once readings fall outside that window, WattGlance reduces them to daily summaries and removes the detailed interval rows. Those summaries remain while your account exists so longer-term history can be exported and used for permitted analysis without retaining unlimited half-hourly data. Your energy supplier remains the authoritative source for your supplier account, bills and contractual records.
Minimum subscription and commercial records may be copied to a separate restricted archive before ordinary account data is deleted. This is retained only for accounting, tax, refunds, chargebacks and legal claims. The default deadline is the 31 August company financial-year end to which the record relates plus six years. VAT OSS records may require ten years, and an active legal hold pauses automatic purging.
Deleting, disconnecting and exporting your data
You can export or delete account data from Settings. The export excludes supplier credentials and restricted post-deletion commercial records and fails rather than presenting a partial file as complete.
Deleting your WattGlance account removes ordinary WattGlance service data and sign-in, subject to the limited commercial-record retention described above. Disconnecting a supplier stops WattGlance using that connection but is different from deleting your WattGlance account.
Deleting WattGlance does not cancel a separate supplier account or a RevenueCat/payment-provider subscription. A subscription that may renew must first be cancelled and confirmed non-renewing by the provider before WattGlance account deletion can complete.
Your choices and rights
Depending on the circumstances, UK data-protection law gives you rights to access, correct, erase, restrict or object to processing, and obtain portable information. Contact us at contact@wattglance.com to exercise a right. You may complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office if you remain dissatisfied.
Security
WattGlance uses access controls, row-level database security, encrypted connections and restricted server-side credentials. Supplier connection credentials are encrypted or otherwise restricted according to the integration used.
No online service can promise absolute security. If a security incident creates a legal obligation to notify affected users or the Information Commissioner’s Office, WattGlance will do so.
Changes to this notice
If we materially change what personal information we collect, why we use it, or who receives it, we will update this notice and communicate significant changes in the service or by email where appropriate.
